At Higgins House of Rest, we understand that families want an option that is simple, affordable, and stress-free. That’s why we offer online direct cremation. You can make arrangements from the comfort of your home without needing to visit our funeral home in person.

Direct cremation keeps costs lower while still providing your loved one with the dignity and care they deserve. To make this process smooth, please follow the steps below carefully:

Step 1: Notify the Facility

Let the hospital, nursing home, hospice, or medical examiner’s office know that Higgins House of Rest will be transporting your loved one into our care.

Certain Facilities will require a Release Form for the Funeral Home. 

Release Authorization

If your loved one is under the care of the medical examiner, a written release must be provided before Higgins House of Rest can bring them into our care. This release gives us permission to coordinate with the medical examiner’s office for the transfer.

Step 2: Complete Required Forms (See forms Below)

You will receive a packet of forms that must be completed before cremation can take place. These include:

• Claim of Authority to Carry Out Disposition – identifies who has the legal right to authorize cremation.

• Cremation Authorization Form – required to proceed with cremation.

• FTC Disclosure Acknowledgment – confirms you have received and reviewed our General Price List (GPL), available on our website.

• Death Announcement & Social Media Publication Form – this provides a low-cost way to share notice of death in lieu of newspaper publication, which can be very expensive.

• Death Certificate Request Form (Vital Statistics / DC Form) – provides the information needed to generate the official death certificate.

• Cremated Remains Retrieval Authorization – designates who will receive your loved one’s cremated remains.

• Electronic Identification Authorization – grants permission for us to conduct identification electronically if required.

Step 3: Submit Forms & Documents

All completed forms must be emailed to info@higginshouseofrest.com along with:

• A copy of the next of kin’s photo ID

• A photo of your loved one

Step 4: Payment

Payment must be made through the secure link provided on our website. Save your digital Receipt and send a copy via email.

Step 5: Arrangements for Cremated Remains

• If you choose online-only arrangements, your cost remains affordable.

• If you choose to pick up in person, there is an additional $300 fee or the full cost of an in-person service package.

Step 6: Tracking & Return of Cremated Remains

Once the cremation is complete and the remains are ready, we will keep in touch with you by phone and/or email so you know every step of the process.

• You will be notified by email when the cremated remains are available.

• Remains will be shipped to you by the United States Postal Service (U.S. Mail).

• Families will receive the cremated remains in a temporary urn unless an urn has been purchased with the package.
